Nihongo to Japan runs a free official LINE account where you can practise Japanese without opening a browser: challenge a friend to a sudden-death JLPT duel on the same set of questions, or just tap once a day for a single question with its explanation. 4,964 questions across N5–N1, no sign-up and no email.

JLPT Duel: turn the question bank into a match with friends

Pick a level and start sudden-death mode — one wrong answer ends the run, so the question is how long you can keep a streak going. When you finish, send a challenge card to a friend: they get exactly the same questions you did, so the comparison is fair. Nobody gets an easier draw.

Question of the day: one question, 30 seconds

Tap once in the chat and you get a question, with the explanation right after. About 30 seconds. The hard part of Japanese is not difficulty, it is continuity — one question a day is far easier to sustain than three hours every weekend.

Menu shortcuts: level test, question bank, lessons

The rich menu opens the free level test, the N5–N1 question bank and the self-study lessons directly. No URLs to remember. When you want to practise on your phone, LINE is the entry point.

How the duel works

  1. Choose your level (N5 to N1 — your current level, or the one you are aiming for).
  2. Sudden-death mode: keep going while you are right, and the run ends on your first mistake. Your streak is your score.
  3. When the run ends you get a challenge card you can share to a friend or a LINE group.
  4. Your friend gets the same set of questions, so comparing streaks is a fair fight.

Getting started

  1. Add the account：Tap the button below to add the official account. Free, no sign-up, no email required.
  2. Open the menu：A rich menu appears under the chat with five entries: JLPT Duel, Question of the Day, Level Test, JLPT Question Bank and Self-Study Lessons.
  3. Answer one, or send a challenge：Tap “Question of the Day” to warm up, or go straight to “JLPT Duel”, pick a level, play, then send the challenge card to a friend.

Common questions

Is it free? Do I need an account?

Completely free. No sign-up, no email. Add the account and you can use it — like everything else on this site, permanently free.

Do both people have to be online at the same time?

No. You finish your run first, then send the challenge card. Your friend can open it whenever they like and will get exactly the same questions.

Are the questions the same as on the website?

Same source, same quality bar. LINE currently carries 4,964 questions across N5–N1 (grammar and vocabulary), all individually reviewed to avoid problems like two answers both being correct.

Will it spam my chat?

No. You mostly pull practice from the menu yourself; we only send learning content occasionally, not constant push notifications.

Can I practise without LINE?

Yes. The question bank, lessons and level test on the website are all free and public — LINE is simply a more convenient entry point, plus the duel mode.
