After the big 2023 increase, the nationwide JR Pass rises again on October 1, 2026 — but only through overseas travel agencies:

The key move: to promote its own online store, the official japanrailpass.net site keeps today's prices online for a limited period (the end date will be announced separately). So if you travel after October, buy on the official site before the hike takes effect to lock in the current price and skip the increase.

Verdict: For this itinerary, buying the JR Pass (¥50,000) is not worth it — buying individual tickets saves you ¥6,240.

※ The Hokkaido Shinkansen currently ends at Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto. The extension to Sapporo was originally slated for FY2030, but in 2024 JRTT officially announced a delay (now estimated at the end of FY2038) — it will not open in 2027. For now, Tokyo → Sapporo means flying, or taking the Tohoku/Hokkaido Shinkansen to Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto and transferring to the limited express "Hokuto" to Sapporo (about 3.5–4 hours; that limited express is covered by the JR Pass).

Is the Green Car Worth It? How Do Child Fares Work?

Green Car (first class): the 7-day Green pass is ¥70,000 vs ¥50,000 Ordinary — a ~¥20,000 premium. The Nozomi-supplement charge is the same for Green and Ordinary, so that ¥20,000 buys comfort only (wider seats, quieter, usually less crowded). 2026 E-Ticket Buying & Using Walkthrough + Peak All-Reserved Days

Since 2023 the JR Pass has gone fully digital, and it's simpler than it sounds:

1. Buy online: purchase by card on the official site japanrailpass.net and get an e-ticket (QR/e-voucher); overseas-agency exchange orders still swap for a physical pass on arrival.
